How to backup my iphone then put all the stuff back after restoring it?

I have to restore my iphone because it won't connect to my itunes unless i do so. I'm not sure exactly how to backup my iphone though. Main thing i'm worried about is my calendar app? I have basically my life so neatly organized on my calendar app and it would be a great loss if it wasn't properly backed up…
I have all my pictures on my laptop in the photos thing (i have a macbook air) but keep selective pictures on my phone so how could i only keep those selected pictures back on my phone after restoring it?
Also how do i backup contacts?
I have no idea what to do someone help me

I would recommend setting up iCloud backup. Once you do, it'll take a full backup of your phone, ship the backup to Apple's servers and save it for you. When you wipe your phone, you have the option of signing into your iCloud account when you set it back up, and performing a restore of all of your data.

How did you determine that it won't connect to iTunes? Did iTunes give an error about need to restore?

To make a backup of an iPhone, use iTunes. Sorry, but that's how. You could try a third-party app, such as PhoneDisk.app, iExplorer.app, or DiskAid.app.

Maybe you already have a backup. Look here:
