First up you need to be precise about what you are trying to do!
You can't connect up an iPhone to work as a display for a device that has a VGA output.
To send your iPhone display to an external device you would need a "lightning to HDMI" adapter. That gets you to HDMI, but to get you to VGA you'd need to find a smart-scaling HDMI to VGA adapter too!
You would need a black box solution, not just a cable. Popular as smartphones are, someone may have cobbled something up to market, but you would have to check around online. More popular is 'casting. VGA connections are dated as it is. You could try the accessory market for mini projectors, but I don't think they terminate in VGA.
