How to connect to a SpeedStream 6520 router?

I'm staying at a relative's house right now, and I'm trying to connect to their SpeedStream 6520 router (which they just got recently). I'm trying to connect on a laptop running Windows 7. When I selected the name of the network, a window came up that said "Network Authentication" and "Please enter user credentials", and it asked for a username and password. First of all, I have no idea what to do here- I assume I put in my username and password, but I do not see how that has anything to do with connecting to the network. Anyway, I put in my username and password, and it said that it was unable to connect to the router. It was unable to diagnose the problem.

Then, I tried connecting from my iPhone. I put in the WEP password, and nothing happened. It just sat there with the loading wheel spinning. I know I put the correct password in, because I tried it again with a made-up password and it said that it was incorrect.

Added (1). By the way, I'm writing this from their computer. I don't want to be using this one, though, so I would like to know how to connect to this router.

It should NEVER ask for the user name and passowrd. So there's something seriously wrong with your machine's network setup, or you were connecting to someone else's wireless. If their key is NOT WEP the Iphone can't connect anyway. It can't handle WPA.

The network appears up on the ipod and the password i enter is definitely right but it says that its unable to connect. Any ideas on how to fix it?
