How to convert a M4A to M4R on windows 8?

So, I know how to make iPhone ringtones, but I'm not on Windows 8, and can't find out how to rename the extension? I right click it, and in the properties I can see it's an m4a file. If I right click and rename it, I can only give it another name, not another file type.
What do I do?

I got the same problem with you, then i found the answer.
At Windows 8, go to control panel, if you can't find the control panel just search, then view large icon, then there's a file name "Folder Option", ---> view ---> uncheck "hide extensions for known file types. Then Apply. Done.

  • Trying to convert itunes song to ringtone, file name not showing up with.m4a? I've found several step by step instructions on how to turn an itunes song into a ringtone for my iphone. I make the song 30 seconds, create an aac version, hit show in windows explorer, but then the next step says change the ".m4a" in the song title file name to ".m4r". The only problem is the file name just shows up with the normal song title, no ".m4a". Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
