How to earn more gems on Dragonvale without buying them?

I downloaded the app Dragonvale on my iPhone a few days ago and i need more gems because you need to buy all these other dragons and they cost a lot of money and the dragon cash can't buy them are there any ways that i can get a lot of dragon gems fast.

You don't need to buy the dragons. Have you consider breeding for them? I got every dragon either by breeding them or getting them as a gift (gift dragon).

Since you just downloaded the game, there's not much you can do to get free gems other than to get them as gifts either from friends or making 3 more accounts and give them to yourself. Or you can hack the game.

If you don't want to go the hacking route, there are some ways to get free gems.

1. Build the coliseum as soon as you can. It's an easy way to earn 2 or 5 gems every 24 hours. As long as your dragon has one of the elements for that days element, you'll earn at least 2 gems.

2. Build the race track and race. If you win, you have a chance to spin the wheel to win up to 2 gems. It's very unlikely that you'll win a gem but there's a chance.

3. Build the gem island and start breeding gem dragons. Currently you can breed pearl (snow + seaweed) and jade (salamander + plasma) dragons. Pearl generates 1 gem a week while the jade dragon generates 1 gem per month. Breed 12 pearl dragons and you'll be making 12 gems a week.

4. See that tome icon on the left side. Click on it, then tap show all. If you breed and hatch some of those dragons, you get gems. A gold Olympus dragon gets you 5 gems. It's a one time thing.

I have every dragon so far and I didn't spend a penny. You can breed all of them. You can earn gems too from the daily colosseum event. The trick is to pick the dragon the the event is of. Example, for a fire event pick the fire dragon, for an earth event pick the earth dragon, etc. It will always win you a silver or gold medal. You can also gift friends and they gift back. And gemstone dragons earn you two gems per month.
