How to explain the death of his pet to my son?
He's only 10 years old, and the $2500 Gold and Blue Macaw I bought for him on his 7th Christmas died.
My son treasured that bird more than he does his iPhone, PS4, or Macbook (and he's a tech wiz). Should I get him another Macaw?
A 10 year old is more than old enough to understand and process death. They are also more than aware enough to realize if you just go out and buy a new bird that it's not the same bird. Talk to him about what happened, and then together you can decide if he wants another macaw.
Honestly, I would have some reservations about getting another bird not knowing what happened here. I'm not saying that repsonsible bird owners don't suffer unexpected losses. But a macaw should be living 50+ years, so unless yours was already old when you got him he died when he was still literally a baby. Before getting another bird, you need to figure out why this bird died and address the problem.
How sweet. I absolutely love hearing about kids loving animals more than the materialistic things… You're raising a good one! Just tell him the truth and that things happen like that but make sure you make some kind of euphemism.
Ask him… He's old enough to make up his own mind about wanting another bird.
Domt hide the fact, hes old enough to know about death, obviously break it gentle and tell him ull get another
Sounds like it's a no no problem for you guys to buy another one but since he loved that bird so much I think it wouldn't be the same, but he's still 10 he'll get over with it someday. Just give him another company if he really likes

- My son broke his AT&T iPhone? My son is 12 and he dropped his AT&T iPhone 5 while he was playing basketball with friends today, and now the screen's cracked. The phone is over a year old so what's the cheapest way to get it repaired or replaced, with out DIY?
- My 16 year old son won't give us his iPhone password, what can we do about it? I want to know what he texts to his friends, sort of spy on his thoughts kind of thing. The thing is he bought the phone with money from his job and he pays the bill, it's prepaid. He refuses to hand over his phone or the password. He says if we try to take it away he will defend his property using force. What can I do? I really need to know what's in that phone!
