How to get a Japanese iPhone to work in Spain?

I asked at the Apple store in UK and they said the Japanese carrier had to unlock it.

Well, now you know. Understand that regardless what phone you have and where you got it, it has to have cellular phone service. If you got your phone in Japan, unless you were just buying the phone which is essentially a paperweight until you get service, more than likely they will set you up with a service in Japan. If you want service in Spain you need to sign p for service in Spain with a Spanish provider. It is like a computer. Just because you buy a computer doesn't mean you can access the internet, you need to get an internet connection.

  • Will my T-Mobile iPhone 5 work in Spain? I'm traveling to Spain next month and will more than likely be bringing along my iPhone 5 for the trip for use as a camera/iPod/etc. And was wondering if it would be possible to use it for texts, calls, and data as well? If so would this cost extra, or would there be a way to get it for free?
  • Will my Japanese iPhone 5s work in the US? 8Unlocking it is not the issue. Its currently locked to AU, but I would take it to get unlocked after I get back. I want to know if there are any hardware differences. My friend told me he thought that US and Japanese iPhones use different antennas or something. I want to know if this is true, or if the iPhone design is standard. Will I be able to connect to a US network with it?
