How to get remaining itunes oney off itunes account?

I have $9 on my dad's itune account when he had an iphone, but he has since got rid of it. I just got an ipod touch and created a new iTunes account. When I try to put in the itune gift card activation code on my new ipod, it says its invalid. Is this because its still on my dads account?

I know my dads ID login. How can I get it off of his account, the remaining $9, and get it onto my new account to use?

You can't take it from his account and put it on your account. Instead, sign in on your ipod with your dads ID and buy whatever you want with it and then sign out and put money on your personal one next time

I was going to buy the season pass for $19.99 so I have more than what I need. But I tried redeeming and it said I had insufficient remaining credit.
