Hold it vertically
Swipe up you'll see a lock symbol that stop your phone from turning
Pull up Control Center & tap the Screen Rotation Lock button. One with the lock on it.
Turn on roation lock

When I played it with VLC (or others) it plays sideways. Speed is normal though. Then I played it with QuickTime and the vid played normally (Portrait) but the speed was too slow. QT is lagging.
