How to learn how to play classical guitar?

I have a classical guitar and I want to learn how to play it. I don't know how to tune a guitar or how to use the tuning apps they have for iphones etc etc. Can someone tell me what I should do to start off. I learned the tabs on how to play smooth criminal but I only play the first main riff. Please let me know what I can do to know how to play the guitar so I can learn the whole song.

If you want to play well, there's no way around it - you need to take lessons. Or at the very least read about it online. You need to learn how to find a note on the neck, which strings are which, and if you can't read sheet music, you'll need to learn that too. I'm sure if you googled guitar tutorial or whatever, you'd get a few things that'd help. But I highly suggest taking lessons.

It's virtually impossible to learn to play classical guitar without a teacher. He or she will also teach you how to tune your guitar. (Hint - buy a Snark SN-5, clip it to the headstock, and tune one string at a time.)

Like any musical instrument you can learn guitar all by yourself.classical are easier to learn than still string accoustic cz its string won't cut your finger. Just go to youtube & start with some easy beginner chord song then slowly progress to higher stuffs.

oh & you need to do tons of practice atleast one hour everyday & lot of patience. Now you know the ultimate secret to learn any musical instrument

Use youtube and vimeo as your first free resource. There you'll find lot of beginner lessons. Youtube will help you getting started with tuning and playing.

  • Where to find guitar chords? I bought an acoustic guitar yesterday and want to learn the chords. But I can't find a website or Iphone app that will give me all of the chords in one go so I don't have to go searching again. Any ideas?
  • When tuning a guitar do you hold a fret? When you tune an acoustic guitar do you have to hold a fret down while you tune? When i tune to drop c or standard do i have to hold any of the frets or do i leave the strings open while i tune? I have an iphone app tuner if it helps Thanks, I was doing it right then. My high e string never gets picked up.
  • What's your top 10 classical songs? I already have over 200 songs on my iphone. Also if you could put artist- song name would be helpful… Thanks
  • What is this guitar technique called? I see it in modern metal, but even Metallica has used it in the past You basically alternate between palm muted (usually) open notes on the low E, and clean notes on the A (generally on frets 5, 7, 8, 10, 12 depending if you're in dropped tuning or not Am I rambling or am I making sense? Is there a name for this type of riff? here's an example, hopefully this comes out right (on iPhone not desktop) A---7---8 E-0---0---0---0--- --- hopefully you get the gist:/
