How to learn more about astronomy?

The other day I downloaded an app on my IPhone that let's me see the names of stars and planets I point it at. I climbed onto my roof and started looking through it and it was the coolest thing I have ever seen. I loved it so much that every night I have gone up and looked at them. Now, I want to learn as much as I can about astronomy. Can someone please tell me how I can do this? Like what do I need to know? I honestly think its my new passion, so I want to study up on it but I have no clue what to study. Can you help me?!

Start asking around.

Read a book

Read this online article:

Believe it or not it was written by people just like you (and me) --- people who have an interest in astronomy and in writing down what they know.

The other thing to do is go to you local book store and buy a book (or three) on astronomy. You will likely find hundreds of titles.

At least one aught to be coffee table book.

Take your time over deciding which ones to buy.

Also. --
a pair of 8x50 binoculars is a really good idea -- they give you a 8 times magnification of the area you are looking at. They are inexpensive and so easy to use. No setting up and storage problems either.

Visit your local astronomy club. The members there will be only too pleased to help you and you will almost certainly get invitations to view objects through some pretty sophisticated equipment. Most clubs have their own libraries with a much better selection of books than a local book store or public library.
