How to make an app for beginners?

So I've been wanting to make an app for a while now. I have no idea where to start. Is there a way I can do it for free? (My idea was to make an app for bands. Like sws, bmth, of&m, wcar, etc. I wanted it to have pictures of the bands, music, and possibly info of the band. I wanted it to be like where on the left side of the screen it has the band names listed from a-z and if you click on one it would have the options of music, pictures, and info. I also wanted to make it to where people could be able to like the pictures and music and leave comments and such. Also, I wanted the home page, or when you just open the app, the first screen to show some pictures and they would be the most liked ones. Like the popular pictures on the app. So basically, when you open the app I wanted it to be popular pictures and then the categories of the bands on the left. That's my idea for the app.) So, now that I've said what the idea was, onto the main thing. I wanted to make it to where android and iPhone users can use it. Though, as I said before, I have no experience with making apps at all. So I wouldn't know where to start. I feel like since it's a rather big Idea that I wouldn't be able to make it since I have no experience and stuff like that. Maybe I should start with something small and work my way up to it. But anyway, I really want this to work, so bottom line is, do you think I can make it? Or maybe not just yet? Any tips? What do I need to do? Any help is appreciated! <3

Android and iPhone are quite different, so you'd need to produce two versions of your app.

For Android, you can download Eclipse and the Android development software for free - just Google "Eclipse". Once this is installed, you can start Android app development. A search of the internet should find you some introductory lessons, but I'd recommend you get a book on Android and a book on Java.

For iPhone, if you have a Mac then you can download and install Xcode for free. I haven't done any iPhone development so I can't help you with the next stage of the process.

You would need to learn programming first, then decide. You have a long learning curve ahead of you if you are starting at the beginning.
