How to make my Windows 7 Laptop a Wi-fi router for my iPhone 4s?

I Googled this, many links came up, I tried, followed every step, but everytime I tried to connect to the Wi-fi network from my iPhone 4s I couldn't. My laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens if it helps to know.

If you have a Wi-Fi router why don't you just connect to it with the iPhone. If you are trying to shre a connection with your laptop being connected via an ether net cable you have to enable internet connection sharing in windows

You can't receive internet and send an internet signal from the same Wi-Fi adapter. So if you have a laptop with built in Wi-Fi, you can't use that Wi-Fi to get internet, and then share internet with that same Wi-Fi adapter. You either need to give the laptop internet via ethernet direct connection, or buy a usb wireless adapter, so one will get Wi-Fi, and one will send Wi-Fi.

1) Connect your laptop to the internet via ethernet or a 2nd wireless adapter.
2) go to network and sharing center in control panel
3) Click on change adapter settings
4) right click on the adapter you are getting the internet from (ethernet or the other wireless adapter) and select properties.
5) Go to the sharing tab and select "allow other network users to connect though this computer's internet connection" then click ok

6) go back to network and sharing center, and click "set up a new connection or network"
7) scroll down, and select set up a wireless ad hoc network
8) enter name of network, and the security/password.
9) finish, you are done and now can connect any Wi-Fi device to your ad hoc connection for internet.

  • Windows was unable to connect to thomson router? I accidentally turned my router off today for about 10 minutes (Thomson TG585 v7) and now I can't connect with any device at all, ipad, iphone, laptop, ps3 etc. I've gone through all of the settings in the router to try and configure it but nothing I do works. I've had this problem many times in the past but it comes back on and things can connect again… Sometimes, it's just unpredictable.
  • What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150
