How to permanently delete messages?

Ok so after I delete my texts and emails on my iPhone (4th gen) the old messages pop up when I flip over to the next screen to fast search a song or what ever. How do I permanently delete thoughs? And also how do you make it to where when you get a text it doesn't show what's on the text when you receive it?

After you delete your emails, go to the trash folder and delete it too. Then they'll be gone permanently.
