How to restore iphone photos?

I recently got a new iphone. I backed up everything before making the switch! When I restored my phone I noticed my photos wouldn't load. My camera roll says I have over 1,000 pictures but it doesn't show them it just shows blank squares. The only photos that display are my photo stream albums. I bought extra icloud storage so that shouldn't be the issue. I've been messing around with this for weeks now. Any ideas how to get my photos back?

Camera roll pics don't automatically come off a phone with iTunes. You have to make them come off the phone. Usually it's easier to do this via the PC itself and not with iTunes. That's why it makes sense you can't see them. Even when you put them back they don't go to Camera Roll. They only go to another photo album you designate. Camera roll is only pics taken by that phone and not moved anywhere else. Once moved they don't go back. See if they're still on the old phone and USB them over to an album without iTunes. Then sync to the new phone. They are likely also in your iCloud backup BUT you'll have to erase the new phone and restore from iCloud backup in order to obtain them and not sure you want to do all of that. Best luck.

Since you've made a backup bofore, you can recover lost photos by extracting from your iTunes backup file.
