How to save my baby daughter's video footage, and what to store on?

My husband put all the videos from my iPhone to folders on my desktop, and I want to save all the photos and videos onto backup discs. What type should I use for the video files, and what type for the photos? I want to save them separately?

Also, every video is rotated so that the image is sideways. Will I need to fix this? How do I do it? I put one on Youtube and it isn't sideways anymore.

You can save the files on CD-Rs or DVD-Rs (or DVD+Rs). Keep them in envelopes in a drawer out of the sun and they should last for years and years. You don't have to burn actual DVD-player-playable DVDs, though that would be nice. You can save the original AVIs or MP4s or whatever. Probably the safest place to store them would be 'cloud storage', but that will cost money.

There are video editing programs that can rotate videos. I'm sure there are freeware programs to do this. Google "open source video rotate" and you'll see programs that do it. I've never done it so I can't recommend anything in particular.
