How to stop getting roaming charges on an Iphone 4 while traveling?

I'm traveling from Canada to Jamaica, while i'm gone i would like to use my iPhone to face time my friends and use the internet because there's internet at the resort i'm staying at.
How can i not get charges?
Do I turn of "Data Roaming"?
Or "Cellular Data"
I need to be able to use the internet and facetime. I would also like to use text plus.

If I'm correct, you should turn off both "cellular data" and "data roaming." However, when I turned both of these off while travelling from Canada to the UK with my iPhone 4S, my phone would sometimes connect to other networks randomly. I found the best method is to, of course turn off "cellular data" and "data roaming", but to put the plane on "airplane mode" and then turn the Wi-Fi on. It sounds crazy, but trust me, it works. Hope this helped!

If your iphone is unlocked use a sim in the place that you travel to in your iPhone. If not, see about getting it unlocked so you can use a SIM in the location you travel to.

  • Will I be charged if I receive an oncoming call while traveling abroad? I'm traveling abroad and taking my iPhone. I don't have an international package so I'm not planning on making any calls or sending messages. However, what if someone calls me instead? What will happen if I ignore the call and let it go straight to voicemail? Will I get charged for it?
