How to sync my iphone 5 to itunes? - 1

I recently bought an iphone 5 and when i plug it in to itunes it doesn't pick up my new iphone at all. Is there any other way i can back it up? I have thousands of songs that i don't want to loose. I have tried downloading the new itunes and it still doesn't work.

If your iTunes isn't "picking up" your iPhone (I'm guessing that you mean the iPhone doesn't show up on sidebar, which you can bring up hitting ctrl-s), try leaving it connected and reboot your computer. I had that problem once maybe a year ago on my iPod Touch and that's how I solved it.

Back what up? I though this was a recently bought iPhone 5. Aren;t the songs on your computer? Did you download the songs to your computer and then erase them before bothering to save them to a CDR or something? Did you download directly to your iPhone before learning how to save songs FROM an iPhone? Either way - why would you do that?

You have them where? Your computer or the iPhone?

You realize that if you've got music on an iPhone, you simply can't plug it into a computer w/iTunes installed and copy music from it, right? I mean, besides the fact that this has been a common feature on iOS devices for years, it's common sense that a company that sells both iPods and the music that goes on them isn't going to sell a device that allows people to simply connect and copy music from any device to any computer.

Music bought on iTunes can simply be re-downloaded using "Transfer Purchases". As for other music, you can try 3rd party software like sharepod or copytrans.

And you can remember to download to a computer and back up from there. Songs are just data files. They can be saved from a computer like any other file.
