How to talk to my mom about letting me get a job at 17?
So I'm 17 and will be 18 in in September. My mom has never let me have a job at 15 or 16 years old. Well I want a job now because I'm going to graduate in 2 weeks, I want to hang out with my friends this summer because we're all going to be having fun this summer and this is the summer I actually want to go out and be with friends and my boyfriend. I know she didn't want me to have one while in school. But I've kept straight A's since my 7th grade year and took 4 college courses. I'm valedictorian of my senior class. I just want a job so I can save up for a new phone (I want an iPhone, not an android anymore) and I want to save up for an apartment and to help my mom with my college. I just want to be responsible for myself a little bit. Almost all of my friends have job (1 doesn') I'm going to be 18 and I feel like she won't let me grow up because I'm the youngest girl. Any tips on talking to my mom to let her know that I'm growing up and I need to do things on my own a little?
Added (1). I want to hang out with my friends AND have a job. I need a job to hang out with my friends. She'll give me money but I want to earn that by myself.
You need to talk with her and convince her that it will help you and her if you earn money, learn how to save and get experience in the real world. Tell her that it's time for her to let go of your wings and now let you fly.
I don't understand. Do you want a job, or do you want to hang out with your friends? When I was young, a really long time ago, I also wanted a job when I was a teenager. My father wouldn't let me, saying I'd be working most of my life; don't be in such a hurry. I did start working p/t when I was in college to help with that, buy clothes, etc. I'm much older now, and I do understand my father's point of view. That could be how your mother feels. Explain to her that you would like to have some money of your own, and you are graduating from high school. She may see things differently now.
Do chores or anything to help her out and catch her in a good mood. Tell her that she has to let you go eventually and that it's just a job. You'll have work experience and have money for college (maybe don't say the phone lol) I actually just got my first job at Dairy Queen yesterday. My mom was nervous about me getting a job as well but I told her this and she gave.
Get a job and then tell your mom that you got a job. Thats what i did when i was 16.
You ought to be earning now. Gently explain to your mom that you want to contribute by having some of your own income.
You have your life pretty much set for you by the looks of it, you're obviously already an independent person so maybe you should broach the subject with your mum in that manner, mention maturity or do jobs around the house to prove yourself to her as being a capable adult. And potentially hint that she may be holding you back a little bit, but be nice about it because she obviously seems sensitive about losing her youngest child. She might be holding onto the past a bit.
Di you want a job to earn money? Is that what you mean? If your mom doesn't want you to work, you have to ask her doesn't she want you to get use to work, m or does she want you to be a layabout welfare queen? At your age you need to learn about work so you need to start getting a job regardless.

- How to get a job fixing electronics? Recently fixed my broken iPhone, and it was fun taking it apart and reassembling it. Felt like it was a puzzle I was putting together and I enjoyed learning what all the different parts were and how to fix various common problems. I know craigslist is full of people advertising iPhone/electronics repair, but what kind of formal training could I get to expand my ability and become more legitimate?
