How to upgrade storage on iPhone 5C?

So, I got my iPhone 5c for my birthday last year, and it's recently come to my attention that it only has 5GB of storage, because my dad didn't want to pay extra for more storage. The fact that I only have 5GB has really started to annoy me--I can't have any more than 1,000 pictures and I only have 5 apps and no songs. It's ridiculous. Is there any way for me to buy storage without getting a new phone? (I know there's a way to by iCloud storage, but I mean the /actual/ storage of the device).

Nope, not possible.

You have to get a different one with more internal storage.

Unfortunately no.

Apple has been very stubborn with its refusal to allow for addition of external storage on iPhones and iPod devices.

Whatever storage you buy when you get it, that's it. You get nothing else. Which basically forces all users to use iCloud (Because Apple wants you to stick with only their infrastructure, which is why almost everything is proprietary)

If you want more storage, you're going to need a new phone.

I decided to ditch Apple a long time ago and have been with Android for the last 6 years because the majority of the phones have more freedom (Almost all of them accept microSD cards for more storage up to 32, 64, or even 128GB, they all charge via MicroUSB which is super common, etc)

The storage is not upgradable. You'll have to replace the phone.
