How to use Verizon Iphone in India?
I have An Iphone 5 with 4G LTE For Verizon and am spending 2 months in India. I want to use this as a cell phone there. Would it work if I just replaced the sim card with a Reliance or Airtel sim card?
The iphone 5 comes unlocked for international use for global carriers outside the us. Not unlocked for gsm in the US, but for global SIM card. You can use it simply by putting the foreign sim in the iPhone. It will brick the phone where you will need to unlock it through iTunes or Wi-Fi again once you get in there, much like when you get the iPhone from the factory. You can't use your nationwide phone number on the phone then. You will also brick the phone back to your old sim when you return to the us.
Verizon iPhone 5 comes unlocked for any SIM worldwide so you can try putting the SIM you want in India and see if you can make calls or texts. If not, then the phone has to be unlocked. Check online for factory unlocking Verizon iPhone then.
