I found an IPhone 4, how do I unlock it to find out the who the owner is?

I was walking in the park, and I found a white IPhone 4 on the ground. But it has a lock on it. So I was wondering how I can unlock the phone to find out who the owner is and return it?

Cheers (:

Added (1). UPDATE,

Thanks for the answers,

I have had this IPhone in my possession since last Friday (almost a week), and no one has called or texted the phone since,

Handing it into the Police was an idea, but my friend said that he handed a phone into the police, but they just kept it and didn't try to contact the real owner.

I've already plugged it into my computer and opened ITunes, but I still can't access it. A message pops up saying that I need to enter the passcode on the phone to access it on the computer.

Any more ideas?

Added (2). UPDATE 2,

I have managed to access the phone via a couple of wild guesses at the code! Crazy I know!

Turns out I've stumbled across a completely blank IPhone 4S! No contacts, pictures, music.

And in addition there's no SIM.

Plug it into a laptop or computer, that has itunes and it should say who's phone it is

You could go to an apple store and (if you want but I don't really recommend it) you could claim that it's yours and tell that you forgot the pass. You could also look for a PC program that can unlock the phone but I'm not sure that something like that exists.

You can either leave it turned on wait to see if the owner or a friend of the owner calls and let them know you found their phone. Unless you want to keep it for yourself, then do the recovery mode and plug it into your pc and sync it up with itunes. I also don't recommend handing it over to the police as they will most likely keep it and the owner will never find it. Another way is to bring it to the apple store and see what they can do about it. Most likely they'll be able to locate the owner. Hope all of that helps!

Take it to apple, they will contact the owner and return it.

You won't be able to get in it unless you know the passcode.

  • What to do with found Iphone if the owner won't pick it up? I found a iphone at my cabin a few months ago, we plugged in in found and the owner. We messaged her on facebook, called her, texted her and did a lot to get it back to her. We finally got a hold of her through email. We have been waiting to hear back from her. I would go drop it off to her but she lives a hour and a half away. What do I do with the phone if she hasn't already came and gotten it? What do we do with it?

  • I found an iPhone 4s can the owner track it? So i found an iphone 4s and took the sim out its sprint and completely restored it and plugged it up to itunes and its all my info can they get on another iphone and go to the tracking app "wheres my iphone?" If you are going to preach to me: i don't care what moral lesson you tell me, I'm not going to return it, so don't waste your time. If they weren't 500$ then maybe i wouldn't have to steal.
