I got scammed on Craigslist. What should I do?

I'm a sprint service user for almost a year now, will be a year now in November, but just recently, it was around last week I had damaged my phone, and i have no insurance on it. So when I went to the Sprint store they told me they best i could do was get another phone (btw i did try to repaiir it and the phone repair shop I went to said i was going to be $120 dollars to repair and also that the repair is only a 5O / 5O chance. They said it really wasn't worth it, and i went to 3 different repair stores and each one said the same thing it isn't worth it.) so like i said they told me the best i could do was get another phone but it HAS to be sprint doesn't matter what type as long as it's Sprint.SO, I went on Craigslist and found some selling an iPhone 4S for $3OO in my area, I emailed him my friends number so could talk to him about buying the phone. And he did contact me back and that same night he gave me his address and than later told me to meet him in a McDonalds and so we did, I gave him the money he gave me the phone and we went out separate ways, and just today when I tryed to get the phones switched, the Sprint employee told me the man still owed money on the account and they said the best I coud do was try to find him and get our money back, but i erased his number from ym friend phone and the messages yeah i know stupid move on my part. But i know what neighborhood he lives in at least, what should I do?

I'm afraid there isn't a thing you can do.

I'm sure he knew what he was doing, scammers know the game, sorry this happened next time ask for esn numbers from phone and call sprint before meeting.

Try contacting him through the ad is it's still up. Or does your friend still have the number?

To avoid this next time:

Meet your seller at the phone store and have them verify it's OK. Then have the phone transferred into your name while the seller is still there.

Its not his fault you bought the phone he probably thought he was just making money n skipping the bill lol get it unlocked from a second hand phone shop or get the unlock codes from google. Sounds like you over paid for a old phone.
the bill isn't your bill so the sprint employee shouldn't be telling u about it n they just sell the debt to debt collectors when people don't pay n they claim the money from there insurance

You were a victim of fraud. Call the police, but don't hold out much hope.

Well if the ad is still up you can contact craigslist and explain the situation. Otherwise you're SOL.
