Apple owes you nothing. None of the $ you paid went to them but into the pocket of the person who "found" that iPhone and sold it to you knowing you would not be able to gain access to the phone.

It's stolen property.
You can be prosecuted for "handling stolen goods" if you do anything other than take it to the police.

Give them full details of the seller and they may be able to help you get your money back.
