I have an invention, i know it will work. Who do I talk to about getting it released to the public?

I have the cure for dogs in hot cars.

I have found a way to make an AC unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter part of the car with car charger plugs, and since the end is a USB it can also be plugged into Iphone/whatever wall chargers and used for crates.

I already have my supplies and I'm going to make a video of me staying in the car with the AC unit showing how it works, and staying until it doesn't keep cool anymore.

The cool part is an Ice pack, i'll show you later on.

When I'm done this, who do I talk to about making this a real thing for other owners to get their hands on?

Seriously though, many people like me do not want to leave their dogs at home and sometimes you have to stop and grab something from a store quickly. I like to bring my dog everywhere.

Who do I talk to?

Should I talk to a pet company?

Help

I'm 16 and I know exactly how this will work, if you question it please ask me whatever and i'll explain.

Added (1). I didn't specify how to make it, I think it's safe for now.

Unfortunately, you have now disclosed your invention and maybe scuppered the possibility of ever getting a patent for it, due to "prior disclosure".

Get it patented.
I think there's something like "invent.com" or something like that.
But MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY BIT OF THEIR CONTRACTS. They can try to steal your invention and give you little to no profit.
Good luck!

ps it would be good if you kept a journal with specific details so if someone does try to steal your invention you'll have some kind of proof in court

Well I'll start by saying well done on coming up with the idea and knowing how it will work and the idea seems really clever.

I guess it depends on how it works and how it will be a better idea for the consumer than opening a car window and without leaving the car engine on.

I think you could take it to a pet company and pitch the idea and see if there interested in buying it.

If they are I would suggest you patent. The idea A patent makes sure no one else can take the idea and make it themselves other than you and sell it. If you don't want to produce the product yourself you would sell the patent to a company and they will pay you.

You could talk to a pet company and see if they are interested in purchasing it. If they are you might want to think about packing it and producing it on a larger scale.

This company can help with the patent and the manufacturing.

Being an inventor can be incredibly rewarding. Lori Greiner, who holds the record for most patents by an individual, wrote a book "Invent It, Sell It, Bank It!" that goes through the whole invention process. If you can't afford to buy the book, read it inside a bookstore like Barnes and Noble, or use an iTunes gift card or Amazon.com giftcard.

Research the inventions process with a Google search, consumer goods manufacturing, prototyping, etc.

Make your prototype, TEST IT, then make your video, then start a kickstarter.com campaign. If it's well put together and people think it'll work you might actually get some funding.

Making a pre-production prototype is one of the most expensive steps and you'll need several thousand dollars. There are people who specialize in prototype production, but before that you'll need CAD drawings to give to the prototype maker.

As Bob mentioned already, DO NOT DISCLOSE how it's made to protect the patentability of your product and to make sure no one beats you to the punch.

(A problem you might encounter with car charging ports is that not all of them still charge when the car is turned off.)
