I have an iPhone 4 and I want to upgrade to iPhone 5?

Okay so, i'm with the phone carrier Virgin Mobile, i'm from canada so i'd imagine its basically the same. Anyways, I've had my iphone 4 since June which i believe was 15 months ago, it's been more than a year i'm positive cause I got it in june, I'm wondering can i upgrade to an iphone 5 without paying a stupid cancellation fee from my existing contract, cause i talked to someone from a kiosk and i don't think they understand what i'm trying to say. Like i don't see why it would be a problem to upgrade to a new phone with the same plan, especially after its been over a year of having my original iphone 4.So does anybody have any suggestions? Cause the reresentative on the phone is telling me i have to buy out of my contract? How does that make any sense like why would i buy out of my contract if i'm just changing to a different phone? Makes me seriously consider leaving them after my contract is up, they would know that too. So anybody please help!

No you can't unless you want to pay either the cancellation or the price without 2 year contract… Which is a lot!
