Does your iphone accept simcards? If it does, just unlock it and use it with any carriers that use Sim Card.At&t is a rip off… I went through this as well and the best options for you is to unlock the iphone and use T-mobile to avoid data plan… Or there are alternative prepaid services out there like h2o wireless… Which cost $40.00 a month with unlimited text and talk and some data too.
I believe the only networks in the US that allow iPhones are AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. If you want to change to Verizon or Sprint you will need a new iPhone as they use a CDMA network where AT&T use a GSM network.
You will need to unlock the phone to change carrier. I would say verzion and sprint are the best
