I think somebody is trying to scam me through paypal - how do I report this person?
I'm selling my iPhone and put an advert online, and somebody responded to me by email that they wanted to buy it basically, and they want it sent to Nigeria and I gave him my paypal address to send payment too and I have received an email that looks like it is from paypal, it basically says the payment is pending and I should send out the goods. I think this is a scam. What do I do - how do I report this person?
A. No one from Nigeria is going to buy a phone from you and have it sent to them. Yes, it's a scam.
B. Contact Paypal
You have NOT received any payment from Paypal. I can guarantee when you go to Paypal.com there's NO money. You got a fake email from the Nigerian scammer since Paypal prohibits all transactions with Nigeria. This scam was first reported back in 2008 but it's still going around

Forward that "paypal" email to spoof@paypal.com and they will confirm it's fake
Change your Paypal email address As soon as possible as these scammers will now use password hacking software to hack your account
Also ignore any future messages - the next step in the scam will be another fake 'paypal' email saying if you don't send the phone or send the money back through Western Union, they will report you to the FBI. Then you'll get a fake email from the "FBI" or "police" or "lawyer" threatening you with arrest or a lawsuit if you don't send the phone or the money. They will try 3-4 times, then stop once they know you aren't falling for it. But they WILL sell your email address to spammers - so you may start to get loads of spam and scam eamis
NEVER use Paypal unless it's with friends OR you are selling through a site like Ebay or Amazon where the buyer never has your Paypal details
If selling on a site like Gumtree, Craigslist, Loot, etc you never give out that information. These type of sites are ONLY for face to face CASH transactions or you are always getting scammed
