I was pulled over, but there was a bee in the car?

A bee flew into the window and I had a mini freak out. It landed on my shirt, and while I was trying to figure out what to do, I was pulled over for going 60 in a 45… To make matters worse, I was in construction zone. I had no idea I was going 60, nor that I was in construction because I was more concerned with not getting stung. When the officer came to my window and asked if I knew why I was speeding, I motioned at the bee with my eyes and said, "Help… " He reached into the vehicle, pulled the bee of of my shoulder, and said, "It's not getting you out of the ticket." Well, what he didn't know is that before he came to the window, I was able to snap off ONE photo of the bee, and thank god for iphone embedding date and time into their photos. He wrote me up for everything, and I was really nice to the guy, too! Additionally, all of this happened on a sunday morning, mother's day, and there was no construction occurring. I'm writing a Trial by Declaration, I'm bringing up the fact that my speed was safe for the area, there was no construction occuring, asking for proof of a speed survey… But I'm not sure if I should mention the bee and include the photo? Advice please!

You're not going to win your case. You have no excuse for speeding even if that bee would have been a lion. If a bee was in the car the safe and responsible thing to do would have been to PULL OVER, STOP the car and deal with the bee, not fly down the road with your foot on the gas.

Stop trying to justify your poor judgement,. Pay your ticket.

You were able to snap a pic of the bee but didn't know you were speeding in a construction zone - be sure to show the pic and tell that story to the judge and it will be dismissed

How does a bee make you decide to speed in a construction zone? Wouldn't a bee make you slow down and drive more carefully? Many people would pull over in such a situation, rather than drive erratically at high speeds.

This is as stupid as claiming you should have gotten off, because you were nice.

Oh and a lack of workers, doesn't make a construction zone safe. Construction zones involve irregular pavement, equipment, debris, narrow lanes, and a number of other factors which make driving more hazardous. You weren't driving "safe" and trying to claim ignorance of your speed while claiming you were safe is contradictory.

Your excuses are just excuses. None justify speeding. None change the facts of the case.

Not sure the outcome, hope it works for you

Showing the photo will give you an extra fine. About $155 or more.

I have heard this plenty of times as a bailiff in a city court by a lot of people that got caught speeding.

The judge still allowed the ticket and a higher fine was issued to the person contesting the ticket with this excuse, along with court cost.

By all means, show the bee picture to the judge. He will have a good laugh with his wife over dinner. You will still get a speeding ticket, normally doubles in a construction zone. The lack of workers at the site does not make it "safe".it is still a construction zone.
