ICloud Photo Stream problem?

I have over 700 photos on my iPhone 4 and they are taking up 1.5GB on my phone (Camera Roll is 972MB and Photo Stream is 527MB)

I've had many problems with iTunes since I got it such as it not loading and crashing all the time and when I try to log into iCloud Photo Stream it denies my apple id and password even through its right. I've been to the apple store and asked the geniuses what I should do and they told me to reset it and I did but it still crashes and doesn't let me log in.

I want to get onto photo stream as soon as possible because I want to store all my photos from my iPhone without permanently deleting them so I have space on my iPhone, if I delete photos on the Camera Roll will they still be saved in the photo stream?

P.S. The only other way I can save photos is by emailing them to my computer and saving onto a memory stick but it takes a long time.

Have you installed the latest iCloud Control panel?
