If a stranger picks up a dropped sim card for an iphone can they access my photos?

My boyfriend smashed his phone off a lamp post today with images of us and mug shots (lol) of me which i'm not too keen for people to be seeing. We went back later on to find a phone there with a sim gone. What exactly can they see of my boyfriends with just that iphone 5s sim? Also can we ever get those pictures back with no sim nor phone?

Yes, they can.

No, everything is stored on a memory card.

They may however get access to your contacts if they have been stored on it and possibly access your own account and call whoever try like and you will be charged - tell your phone provider

There should be a copy of the photos as well as his contacts and calendar online at iCloud.com if he signed up properly.

The SIM has nothing of use on it except his phone number and cellular network access. He needs to suspend his wireless account As soon as possible so someone doesn't rack up a bill behind his back.

They can see anything stored on that sim card

The sim card is (or should be) locked with a digit code, so nobody can access it unless they know it's pin. If it isn't, or somehow someone enters the right pin, there are no pictures stored on the sim card. It only allows access to mobile networks, meaning someone could call, sms and use the internet on your costs, as well as using your phone number. You should call your provider and have your subscription cancelled (or at least your sim blocked and a new one ordered). If you didn't find the phone itself or a memory card, you won't be able to get the pictures back, unless they were saved in the cloud.

You are confusing SIM cards & memory cards.
