If God is perfectly good, then how can he be capable of evil?

I know people will respond that "God is capable of evil but CHOOSES not to do evil", but that doesn't really solve the problem.

A perfectly unbreakable iPhone would be an iPhone that is physically incapable of breaking. A regular iPhone does not get promoted to "perfectly unbreakable" simply because you have not broke it yet.

The fact that it is CAPABLE of being broken, even if it never has been, renders it imperfect. It is breakable, it just hasn't been broken.

If God is perfectly good, he should be INCAPABLE of evil. The fact he chooses not to do evil does not negate this. He is potentially evil, therefore he can't be perfectly good.

If you want to argue that God is incapable of evil, yes, he would be perfectly good, but now you're arguing God is not omnipotent.

It seems to me God is either omnipotent OR perfectly good, but not both.

Added (1). "Obviously God can't act in violation of His own will"

So God is not omnipotent? He's constrained by the laws of logic which, if he made the universe, shouldn't he have created? If he didn't create the laws of logic, then who did? Ubergod? If he did create them, why is he bound by them? Aren't you just proving he's not omnipotent?

"Evil" is defined as "that which violates the will of God". Obviously God can't act in violation of His own will, therefore He can't sin, or commit evil.

No you are wrong, you are far away from love my friend

The god of the bible never claims to be perfectly good, only Christians make that claim.

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things". Isaiah 45:7

Look at it this way: If you literally have no choice, then do you really deserve credit for what you've done?

Can you really be "good" if you have no choice to be evil?

If you have no free will, you don't deserve any rewards or any punishment. You are just doing the only thing you can do. Such a person doing good would be no more praiseworthy than a rock falling when you drop it. That's just what it has to do.

Your analogy is good, I just don't think it's representative of moral choice. The iPhone has no choice in whether it breaks or what it's made of. It can only do that which it is made to do. But sentient beings have choice, and that's the basis for morality.

The mystery is that He is omnipotent and perfectly good. Evil can be said to be the absence of God and His Commandments. He can't be absent from Himself.

I believe he's perfectly good. I'm less certain about him being omnipotent because the freewill of people limits what he can do in the world.

Yeah
