If I had a iPhone 3G with no SIM card could I still do stuff on it? Like get apps?

I'm just wondering could be a stupid question I'm not good with the phones stuff thinking of buying one on eBay just a kid trying to know things. I heard you can hacktavate it so it lets you slide it with no sim.

Can't you still connect to Wi-Fi without a sim? You need a sim for anything involving the phone company (aka calling/texting that isn't iMessage and cellular data)
Why don't you buy a used iPod touch and save yourself a lot of money?

  • If i bought a sim free Iphone could i get a o2 sim and use it from there? This is probably a really stupid question, but i've no idea how these things work! Haha So basically if i bought an Iphone from carphone warehouse, which is sim free then went to o2 and got a pay and go micro sim- would this work?
  • I could get the iPhone 5s in like 3 weeks but I could get the 5c tommorow? I could get the 5s in a few weeks and I love it but I also really like the iPhone 5c and I could get a great otter box case for it or get the 5s but that would take 3 more weeks. What should I do?! And the 5c is still great right? Because a lot of people still have the 4s. And please don't say wait for the 6 because I'm not
  • Could I still use other features on my iphone if I deactivate its sim card? I know that I could not be able to make calls, use the cellular network data or text, though I hear there are apps for that, but would I still be able to use the ipod features, browse through safari and the app store, as well as download apps and use them, while on a Wi-Fi network and take photos and videos even after deactivating its sim card? I'd just like to activate the one on my old phone but continue to use the iphone, I guess like an ipod touch, if you will.
  • Changing from normal sim card to iPhone 4 sim card? I'm an AT&T customer with a smart phone. I'm wanting to buy an iPhone 4 but I know they take smaller sim cards than normal phones. If I buy an iPhone from an individual, can I take it to AT&T and have them give me a smaller sim card & transfer my information? Would I have to pay extra for it? Is it even possible?
