If my iPhone s location services are off, but findmyiphone is on, can it still be tracked?

The issue is that my mom has an apple account that my device is connected to and I don't want her tracking my phone (I'm 21 and out of the house btw), and to turn off the findmyiphone feature I have to enter the account password for my mom s apple account but I don't know it. So I turned off location services. Will this help? Also I want to figure out how to sign into her account so I can turn this feature off and delete my phone from her account so any advice on how to do that would be great also. Thank you! And if there's other ways she could track my phone even after it's no longer associated with her account please let me know.

Ask mom to turn off find my phone or grow a pair, set up your own account that is not tied to her's or anyone else. While talking to mom, ask her to delete your phone from her iTunes and iCloud accounts.

Findmyphone needs a cellular or Wi-Fi data connection to work. Put your phone in airplane mode and that will for sure keep her from knowing where you are.

So, I will work in reverse for this post. I worked for Apple for three years so I will give you my best advice for this.

1) If you can remove your device from her account, then no, she can't track you. Your best bet will be to create your own AppleID that she doesn't have access to. Don't set up family sharing with her, and make sure you are not using "Find my Friends." Then you are good.

2) As far as turning off location services go, you will need to make sure that is off, and then under that with "Share My Location" turn that off as well. If your mom goes to FindMyiPhone, she will see that your phone is turned on, but won't be able to locate it. I'm not sure how tech savvy your mom is, but also make sure to always keep your phone up to date with the software. If she ever has access to your phone, and you have an old version of iOS, it's possible she could Jailbreak your phone and install software to track it without your knowledge, but that's a long shot and probably not something you need to worry about.

If I were you, I would tell your mom that you want to get your own AppleID and make something up like, "I want to be responsible for paying for my own iCloud storage" or something like that, and then go to sign out of the iCloud account and have her enter the password.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
