In a Christian marriage- does age matter?
I read the Bible and have lately been studying the Bible in areas that have to do with marriage. On my iphone I have a "GLOBible" app that has specific outlines or "bible study sections". I've read and meditated on the "marriage" outline. In a Christian marriage, I understand that the husband is the head of the marriage and therefore a Christian woman should marry a Christian man (and vice versa). I also know what the Bible says about being equally and unequally yoked.
Would a Christian marriage with a Christian woman marrying a christian man who is three years younger matter?
No. Spiritual leadership has nothing to do with age.
You are looking through the eyes of culture instead of the eyes of God.
Age of majority matters.
They need to be able to support themselves.
Age does not matter, as long as it is legal. For bible context, Mary was likely 16 years old when she gave birth to Jesus. It may be looked down on these days, but it is not against the bible.
Normal.
The Bible has no specific guidelines for age (Abraham and Sarah for example were ten years apart, but most marriages spoken of in the Bible do not reference age).
CBN has a discussion of this. (I'm not a fan of CBN, but they seem on this topic to have what seems to be mainstream Christian thought on marriage age difference). They note (as would anyone) that there are things to consider, such as a great age difference might make a difference in how much time you will have together, whether you can have children (if you are interested), &c.
The law has something to say about it, if your age is too low.
Maturity is not always synonymous with age. Women outlive men therefore it makes sense.
Age does not matter in a Christian marriage, as long as both partners are of the age of majority, or of age to marry in the country they live in. AND if they both freely consent to marriage. Not being forced.
The Bible says nothing about age, and three years is a very small gap anyway. If everything else looks good, then go for it.
In Israel at the time Jesus was born it was quite common for the man to be in his early 40s and the woman to be in her mid-teens when married. And this would have been the first marriage for the man. He was expected to have not only a regular income but a home built and paid for. Obviously it took many years to get to this point. And obviously, those standards don't apply today.
