Internet router issue college dorm?
I live in a college dorm and we have both wired and wireless internet. Unfortunetly we have really bad Wi-Fi on out end of the building so we had to install a router. I have two questions regarding this. 1) when I try to disable DHCP in the routers settings it does not allow for some wireless devices to connect to the Wi-Fi such as my iphone. How can i fix this? 2) Every now and again when I'm trying to access a website the browser redirects to an address that reads router/. I don't believe that this is an issue with my router or its setup but can someone shed some light as to what it is?
1. Connect the Ethernet cable to one of router-2's LAN ports. Don't use the Internet/WAN port.
2. If the dorm's router is providing DHCP then your router should turn off its LAN DHCP.
3. Devices connect to Wi-Fi first, then they get DHCP info. Your issue #1 has a different problem. IPhones can be picky -- I've read a few articles that say to use WPA2 w/AES encryption on router-2's Wi-Fi signal.
4. Make sure router-2 is using a different channel than the dorm router. Get a free Android "Wi-Fi Analyzer" app to see the various Wi-Fi signals and their respective channels.
5. When you connect successfully, review your IP info via a command window, by issuing the "ipconfig /all" command. Update your question with this info if you want us to check things out.

- What's the difference between a cheap router and a good router? Just wanted to know the difference between a cheap router and an expensive router, I know that is a very broad question, I'm just a bit confused on how a router works. Does it increase my Internet speed on multiple devices? I get 50Mb per second, Well at least that's what I pay for. I have a PS3 two iPhones and a tablet, as well as a desktop PC that is wireless. Can anyone recommend an excellent router under $150
- Suddenly can't connect to college dorm Wi-Fi? I have an Asus laptop running windows 7. My friends laptops and my iPhone and tablet can all connect to the Wi-Fi here but recently my laptop hasn't been able to identify the Internet. Before whenever this would happen I would restart my computer and I could connect. But not not even that works.
