IOs 6 update lost everything?

I just done the new iOs 6 update on my iphone 3gs and its lost everything, all my contacts, pictures, videos and apps. On itunes it says there nothing on my phone.

So after the update to the OS
you now restore from backup (pictures, contacts, texts)
your now re-install the apps from before (go to apps->On phone, download)

now re-arrange where the apps go, Apple does 'not' back them up
and apple does not automatically restore after an upgrade.

So I trust you backed it up
and remembered the Apple ID and Phone Name.
