IPhone: Contract or Pay as you go?

I'm thinking of buying an iPhone (4 or 3gs) and I'm wondering what is better? (Contract or Pay as you go?)

Contract definitely, you don't have to pay a massive amount up front and you get free texts and minutes, I've got a 3GS with unlimited texts and 200 minutes a month for only £21, which in my opinion is much better than playing £100's up front and having to keep topping up your phone, with contract you don't have to worry.

I like contracts beause usually cheaper
Though you can get 3GS for £150 on eBay
I'm on contract too
Free 3GS £20 a month on 3 100 mins +5000 texts

For a phone like the iPhone a contract is certainly better as it will allow you to use internet features without racking up a huge bill. Even older iPhones are still expensive to buy outright so a contract will spread the cost across several months.

  • Will an orange pay as you go sim card work in my iphone orange contract phone? My orange phone is still in contract but could do with a different number on pay as you go as well, would rather just get the sim card and swap them over, but can always buy a cheap phone as well
  • Unlocking iPhone4s from contract to pay as you go? If someone has an iPhone 4s on contract with 3, when the contract ends and the person upgrades to iPhone 5, can they then unlock the 4s and use it on pay as you go?
  • Should I do pay as you go or Contract? Well my and my brother are getting new phones to start the new year off. I'm going into year 9 my brother is going to year 14 (2nd year college.) I really wanted an iPhone 4/4s as I can't afford an iPhone 5. If I go on contract with an iPhone 4… T-mobile: £21 a month, No upfront cost. That's the cheapest I found. But it's gone from £15.50 a month no UF cost, to £21! Now I can't even afford an iPhone 4! What should I do?
  • Is pay as you go better than pay monthy for an iphone? I can either can an iphone 4 (32gb with small scratch on screen) for 100 pounds and then have a pay as you go sim or an 8gb iphone 4 for "effectively 14.88 a month". Which works out the better deal?
