Because 5000 what's app messages probably only took up about 1MB of space. Thats about 1/2 a photo, or 1/3 of a HQ MP31
WhatsApp messages (assuming you just mean the text ones) are very minor in terms of space.
Like in my case I have a contact with 45k messages & that only accounts for 3.4MB.
Things you could delete in WhatsApp would be media (pics, vids, audio messages) that would help regain space.
