Iphone jailbreaking software? - 1

I have an iphone 3G with ios 4.2.1 and modem firmware 05.15.04

i know i have to use redsn0w for the jailbreaking, but which exact version do i use? And also there's something about needing to download firmware? Which one do i need?

Don't use redsnow! Use Greenpois0n instead

Backup you iPhone before you begin.

Go here: http://greenpois0n.com/downloads/

Scroll down to For "iOS firmware 4.2.1 » GreenPois0n RC6.1"

And download Greenpois0n for windows or mac.

Extract the file and double click it to run Greenpois0n.

Connect you iPhone 3g and close iTunes if it opens.

Click "Preapre jailbreak (DFU)"

Follow the on screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode.

When your device enters DFU mode the jailbreak will begin and some text will appear on your iPhone

don't panic it's normal.

One the jailbreak is done your iPhone will reboot and you will have an app named loader somewhere on the home screen.

open it and click install cydia (Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or data).

Once cydia installs you can delete the loader app.

Open cydia and it will install some files it will exit when it finishes.

You can then go back to cydia and if everything work fine then you iPhone should be jailbroken and cydia should be working fine.
