IPhone turn by turn navigation?

So I have an iPhone 5 and its updated with iOS 6.1.4. The turn by turn navigation doesn't look like the turn by turn navigation on all my friends IPhone 4's. Do I need to download something or hit a button that I'm missing so I can get it to look like theirs? In my opinion their iPhone turn my turn navigations is way better than mine and they have updated theirs as well. Is it because I have an iPhone 5 that I have to do things differently than then to get the turn by turn navigation like they do!

One possible answer is that you may be in an app other than apple's map app. The Map App you're in may depend on how you got there.

There are multiple map apps available in IOS, one is apple's app (called just "Maps"), others include "Google Maps", and "MapQuest".

So, if you got there by clicking an app from your home screen, you can confirm that you've chosen apple's map app (by checking that its title is "Maps"), and you can also confirm that your friends are doing the same.

If you got to your map app by clicking an address from within another IOS app, then it's possible that THAT app took you to the google maps web site in Safari. (some IOS apps do that with addresses, instead of taking you to Apple's IOS map app). And Google's map web site can give you turn by turn, and look like an app itself (but it's not great). That Google Map web site can also take you to the GOOGLE Maps IOS App on your iphone, which IS quite good.

HOWEVER

If you click on an address in your contacts on the iphone, THAT will ALWAYS take you to apple's Maps app, then

- Click on the CAR icon (in the pop-up address label)
- Click START (at the top right of the screen),

And you'll have Apple's current turn by turn directions.
