Is 8.1 megapixels for a camera/video camera good?
I use the a Sony camera for videos and pictures. It is 8.1 MPs & it has 5x optical zoom. Do you think that that is good enough for good quality pictures and videos? Or should I use my iPhone 5's video camera/camera instead?
What model is it? The iPhone 5's sensor is also 8 mp (though obviously with no zoom), but you can't really determine the relative quality that way.
EDIT:
That said, if you already have both, it's probably best to do your own comparison.
Your Sony is fine as long as you don't want to make posters or show vids on a heck of a big screen. I still use a 6.2 mp Pentax dslr for most of my work, but I seldom print anything bigger than 16x22 and mostly in 8.5x11.
Gggggg
Try shooting them side by side. Your eye will tell you the truth.
The iPhone will have a much higher resolution video mode. If your Sony is only 8.1MP, I suspect its best resolution is VGA, 640x424. The iPhone probably shoots HD or full HD, a much higher resolution.
You can get magazine quality photos with a 6MP camera. The Nikon D40 is only 6.1, yet I've seen pro quality photos taken with it.
A lot had to do with the ability ( or lack of ) of the photographer.
8MP is more than enough for pictures. Most people need around 6MP only. 5X zoom will be limited but you can make up by walking.
8MP is too much for video. HD video needs only around 2MP.
- What's a good camera that records high quality video and takes awesome pictures? I'm going on a trip to the Niagara Falls and my dad asked me to look for a good camera since the one we have is 5 years old and takes very bad pictures. My iPhone takes better pictures than that camera. What's a good camera that both records high quality videos and takes awesome pictures. I don't want a big DSLR camera though, just a small compact camera that I can put in my pocket.
- What's a good camera for recording video? Me and a couples friends decided to make a YouTube channel and are in need of a new camera since all we've used right now is my iphone 6. But we wanted to get an actual digital recording camera. We want one with good quality, something under $500. Preferably Nikon or Canon.
- What's a good video camera for recording singing/dance videos? What's a good video camera for recording HD singing/dance videos? I sing and dance, but I feel that my iPhone wouldn't really be good enough to do the job. What's a good video camera under $400? Also, what's a good video/movie editing program?
- What's a good beginning video/vlogging camera? My boyfriend wants to start up a youtube channel for reviewing technology and possibly vlogging on the side, but right now he s just using an iPhone camera. For our one year (which is coming up next month), I wanted to get him his first camera but all the one s I'm finding are WAY out of budget. Are there any cheap yet good first cameras that are possibly under $150?
