Is an iPhone's data stored on which sights the phone visited?

Either on Wi-Fi or off the carriers data plan can the web sights be tracked?
Or can they show where and when they visited the sight? On or off Wi-Fi?
Even if the cookies and web history has been erased?

When I got to the office, my phone automatically connects to the works Wi-Fi which was password protected. So then I opened up the internet and realized that the adult site was still on the phone. This was 3 months ago and it actually happened on 2 occasions. Should I still be worried knowing that it was a while ago?
