Is fairness really important for Australians?

Some people in Australia really hate Abbott and his government reasoning that his government policy is unfair. But is fairness and equality ever possible? There will always be rich and poor and people with privileges and without them. Some people say that LNP don't care about poor people. But who cares? I think most Australians don't care about poor and weak. Most Australians want to get ahead and become rich. It is in human nature to be selfish and self interested. People always want more money and power. So fairness and equality are against human nature. Is rich poor gap unfair? I think no, it isn't unfair. It is just fact of life and life is naturally unfair.
So what do you Australians think; does fairness and equality really matter?

No, self interest is the motivating factor.

Yes fairness is important, Hockey told us we all have to do the heavy lifting but in the budget the poorest individuals had to lift the most, the right lift a lot less and business had to lift nothing apart from peoples super for their pockets

Yes it does matter to many, evidenced by the quiet achievers in Australia who are regular volunteers in a wide range of activities that help improve life for those in less fortunate circumstances.

The noisy, self serving minority get more attention by nature of their self centred lives.
