Is hacking someone's personal email and iphone illegal and what are the charges they could get?

A few years ago I was battling major depression and was acting rather erratically. I found out that my company was investigating me because they were under the impression I was doing something illegal. Which I wasn't. Just wondering if its legal for a company to do such a thing and what could the reprocussions be?

Fyi I'm still with the company 3 years later, but still don't really trust them if what they did was in fact illegal. I'm also no longer depressed

If email is going through the company's server, then court cases have determined that the company has the right to look at them. That has been an issue in cases where someone was accused of sexual harassment, for example, Again, if the phone is provided by your company, it would be quite different from your private phone. As far as I know, they do not have the right to look through your private phone. The police have to get a warrant for that. But I don't know how they would physically do that if you didn't give them the phone. If you were on the company Wi-Fi and email from your phone, the same thing would apply as for email sent from a computer- it's on their server, so they can look at it.

That wouldn't be hacking, by the way. You probably signed off on some agreement on the company's policies about using their server. The email would be residing on their server, which they have access to.

If it was illegal our white house would have all been jailed years ago.

Yes it is.

If the email address was their domain and the iPhone was their property it is totally legal. If you used a work computer to access the email account they can look at anything on it.
