Is it legal to set up a thief trap?

Like lets assume I tweaked my iPhone so that when you press the iPhone button, you get electrocuted and may get seriously injured. Is it legal to do something like that to deter thieves? Like I can go to places where people often steal and put the iPhone in the side pocket of my backpack so that it looks vulnerable. Do you think its morally right to do something like that? I mean it's not my fault that they stole my gadget! Right?

Probably not legal, but then again, it would be instant justice.

Nope - Can't do anything that MAY hurt an innocent civilian. That would include bear traps in your back yard or a shotgun rigged to a window or zipping someone with your phone. You can set the phone to shut-down unless some secret code isn't entered in 15 seconds or to call you on a land line & tell you where it is…
