Is it normal for your contacts to be blurry the first time you use them?

I just got my contacts yesterday and I'm supposed to wear them for 4 hours today. I've had them on for about an hour and a half and my farsighted vision is perfect, but when I'm on my iPhone or reading a book my vision is really blurry and I can't stop blinking my eyes because of the blurriness. Is this normal for this to happen on the first day? Without them my eyes are extremely blurry, my doctor prescribed me -4.25 contacts to both of my eyes. I'm looking at my prescription and my contacts are checked for distance only, single vision, polycarbonate and UV coating. I think I should take my contacts out because even the text on my laptop is kinda blurry. Is this normal?

Wow, I didn't know they made contacts out of polycarbonate!

Anyway new eyewear (glasses or contacts) always take a while to get used to. Your eyes tune themselves to them in a while (actually it's your brain that does it). Give them a few days, and if they're still blurry, call the optician and see what they can do.

Yes. Its perfectly normal. It takes time for the eyesight to adjust. Maybe a few days. As a contact wearer myself it helps to not think about them. Unless they truly are a nuisance and bother you. Keep your mind occupied. It helps. Oh, rewet your contacts after 4-5 hours with drops or just take them out, because they can dry and the edges can cut your eye and its not cool. Its like an itchy eye that never goes away for days (personal experience).

Yeah, your eyes are just getting used of the contacts and are still adjusting to them. In a few weeks, you won't even notice that there are contact lenses in your eyes, so don't worry about it.

No its not normal and its not a question of adjustment. If you close vision is blurred then there's a problem with the perscription. If you are in your 40's/50's its possible you'll need readign glasses with your eyes fully corrected for distance vision, but if so you should have been warned,. If you've only just got contacts I'm guessing you are a lot younger than that,

Suggest you contact teh doctor ; these should be trials and you may need a different perscription.

That is a glasses prescription you are looking at. Glasses lenses come in Polycarb, single vision, and UV coating… That is the power you need for glasses.

Your contacts should be - 4.00

Your symptoms all indicate that the contacts are too strong.

Yes, your eyes need time to adjust to the contacts.
