Is it possible to make a solar powered iPhone charger?

I wish to make one because I believe it would be useful for camping and such I have a bit if money I can spend but please make suggestions I have a iPhone 5. Could I just use a charging cable sauntered to a solar panel? I have a bit of experience in electronic and mostly wanted to know what the volts/amps must be but now I'm interested in other opinion's. Thanks a tonne! And if at all possible could you list exactly what I would need?

Yes.

The word you want is soldered.

You would get a 6V 5W panel, and charge 4 NiMH cells, and use that to charge the phone, to USB with the ID resistors.

  • Will this solar charger charge iPhone 4S? I have a small solar panel I got for free from Total Ethiopia. They gave it to me with a rechargable lamp. The panel has an output of* * Pmax - 1.3w * Imp - 236mA * Vmp - 5.5V The panel has different adapters to charge different phone. It charges all phones in my house (Nokia X2, Nokia 1200, Samsung Galaxy S and S II and Nokia 6300.) but i have an iPhone and there's no adapter for it. The Iphone charger output reads 5v___1A. What modification can i do? Will it charge my iphone?

  • What is the best solar charger for backpacking trips? I just got a Goal Zero Nomad 3.5 from REI but i'm not too sure that i'm gonna like it. I'm going on a 9 day camping trip in North Carolina and will need to keep head lamp, iphone, and GoPro charged. I'm not too sure that this little thing can do it. I do want something small and lightweight so its easy to carry on a backpack. Any suggestions?
