Is it possible to use my Verizon iphone on another Carrier?

So my mom is giving me her verizon iphone 4, she is getting a iphone 4s, But i'm not on her plan. I'm on virgin with a android and want to upgrade to the iphone. Is there any possible way of getting my verizon phone unlocked and putting it on virgin. BTW it is CDMA i don't know what that means but i think it means that the radio signals are differant, but if i can't do it on Virgin are there any other carriers like virgin (cuz they are really cheap) that offer about the same coverage and price.

Sure you can, providing the other network supports CDMA.

You will need to have your current carrier unlock the phone if it's locked. That normally costs about $25.
Then you can go to any carrier.

No you can't. Verizon uses proprietary CDMA as does Sprint. Yet they are not compatible - different frequencies.

You can't unlock it and it won't work on any other carriers. You can however look into Verizon prepaid service. It will be cheaper than a regular plan.

Yes, it is likely to be possible
