Is it safe to jailbreak a iphone 4?

I want to get siri on it but how can I jail break it and does it mess up your phone also if it does can you restore it?

I wouldnt because it could mess up your phone badly bud

1. Jailbroken iPhones tend to have stability issues. (less battery life and slower performance)

2. Your warranty is void if you send in your jailbroken iPhone for service (your protection is thrown away, unless you can restore your iphone before sending it in)

3. Today's cool jailbroken-only features are likely to be added to future iOS versions (but i guess not in your case with the iphone 4 getting siri)

4. If the jailbreak doesn't go well, you could "brick" your iPhone (meaning your could lock your phone and it would be disabled and not usable)

5. Your jailbroken iPhone may get "locked out" of the App Store or other content services

6. Jailbreaking can open your iPhone up to malware

While yes you can mess it up, if you do mess up, just plug it into itunes and press restore, and you're good (just make sure you back it up).So while risky, you won't end up permanently damaging your phone.

As for siri, I'm afraid thats a negative. The way siri works is there's a chip in the 4s and 5 specially designed to interpret your voice and turn it into text. The 4 doesn't have that chip. There are some jailbreaks that provide a software alternative to the chip, but then you also need a siri server key, because after the chip converts your speech to text, the phone sends that text to apple servers. Apple's servers then interpret your question and send back an answer. Every 4s and 5 has a unique server key, which tells the server what phone the text is coming from and where to send the answer. Unless you can obtain a siri server key from a 4s that is not in use, it probably won't work.

EDIT: Also, everything that john pointed out is bad. However, you can always restore your phone if things go bad

If you have an iPhone 4, then you could simply read the answers given to the last 200 people who already asked this question.

Why are you paying exorbitant fees for mobile internet when you can;t do something as simple as type the search sting "safe jailbreak iphone 4" into the "search Y! Answers" box and read the search results?
